Now that the poll is closed, I will answer the question I was asked earlier concerning what I would say if Shane's candidacy was contested. I will say that ,I believe in us and our town, and that I try to be respectful and fair with my comments. In the past 17 years we lived in Souris for 7 .We then moved to the only house available nearest to our town at that time. Unfortunately, though town boundaries expanded in some directions they didn't quite reach to include our house by about 300 ft. As soon as we could afford we made plans to build our home in Souris. That was Aug 2008. Due to circumstances beyond our control the home we should have moved into as of Sept. didn't become possible until Feb. However we lived in 2 places in the meantime , my mother's and our former home on the line road. We still had to maintain this house because the date for our new home kept being postponed and we had already begun the moving out process.Shane sincerely believes he has been a resident for the one year requirement of time. If maintaining the house on Souris Line Road disqualifies Shane , then he apologizes for the confusion . If Town Hall felt Shane didn't qualify we feel they should have refused his nomination regardless of Shane's wishes. It was certainly not his intention to mislead anyone. As for the spelling (which can easily be corrected on spell check) you are right in saying you should be educated enough to write and speak fluently. Shane is capable of doing so when necessary . The only impediment in this matter is his French Heritage which he does not apologize for. Whether or not Shane is elected to serve as Mayor this will still be our home town . We have never before been made to feel like we are outsiders and hope this is not so in the future. If asked anywhere at any time, where we call home our answer has always been Souris.
