Life is Good, Life is Also Short

in Health

I have blogged here about writing and health and being the mayor of Souris. This year, finally realizing the finite nature of life, I decided to get to the heart of the issue. Why haven’t I written a great novel? Why do I weigh 100 pounds more than I did in high school? Where did the time go? and of course, the best question — what am I going to do now?

I am going to prove wrong the old adage that old dogs cannot learn new tricks. Woof. This old dog is learning. The first lesson is to stop trying to be perfect in everything. Pick your battles, your passions, your goals. This blog has become my way of keeping track of my efforts to improve my life. The first step is health. When you get to your sixties you realize you are lucky to still be alive.

Being alive is one thing. Staying alive is another. In my case, staying alive means getting my blood pressure down. The best way to lower blood pressure is exercise and eating properly.  Being 100 pounds overweight is not a good thing if the old blood pressure is through the roof.

I just took a break to take my BP — oops.  179/114. Heart rate 70. The BP numbers are terrible. I was going to get on the scales too but — surprise surprise — the battery is dead in the Tanita body fat scales. Guess I have been avoiding them for a while.

Okay so if my first goal is to stay alive, some changes are going to be made.

Being alive is one thing. Fully living is another. You do it fairly well. I hate having to learn lessons from my big sister, as I’d like to think I know it all. Ha ha.

I like the pic….interesting choice!!! I just got my dial up connected and this was on my drop down address list…..interesting again.

I enjoyed the blog….I think a little more definition of your goal is required.

@DL — well my goal is kind of vague. The project is so overwhelming. But it begins with wanting to live longer and be healthy while I do it. Getting past my love-hate relationship with money would also help. The big things I have managed so far is learning that all important word – “No.” (PS – I always think of calling you when it is the wrong time….)
